The Horniman Museum has a beautiful Victorian conservatory which is currently used for holding events such as weddings and afternoon teas.
Built in 1894. the grade II listed Victorian Conservatory is beautiful and elegant.
While standing in the terrace area you can view the award-winning gardens.
After tendering for the works Abbeymead Building carried out a value engineering exercise to reduce the contract value, shorten the contract programme and reduce the environmental impact of the works.
By working closely with our suppliers, the lead time was shortened to ensure the project was completed on time for a wedding due to be held in early April.
Scope of works carried out by Abbeymead Building Ltd:
-Removal of the existing tiled floor and relay of the new Victorian geometric floor tile on an overlay system of underfloor -heating.
-Underfloor heating and damp proofing.
-A perimeter floor trench carrying the services.
-Refurbishment of the existing doors.
-New traditional radiators.
-A new boiler and plant equipment which was integrated into the museum central heating system.
-Energy efficient LED lighting and feature Lighting
-Fire detection
-Hearing Loop
-WIFI
-Electrical works integrated within the floor
All works were carried out with minimal disturbance to the museum and the visitors. The museum continued to operate around the construction site this required careful co-ordination of deliveries and collections.
The works were completed over an 8-week period in the spring of 2017.
